It’s not the kind of background you’d expect from a world renowned rock photographer and film director, someone who’s shot famous images of icons like Miles Davis, Lou Reed, The Rolling Stones, U2, R.E.M., Captain Beefheart and many, many others. But filmmaker Klaartje Quirijns, who received unparalled access to Corbijn and his work, found a hard-working man uninterested in fame and fortune. She and her crew travelled the world with him for over three years to create this intimate portrait.

The documentary contains comprehensible interviews with not just Corbijn himself, but also his sister and friends (as well as subjects) like singers Bono (U2), David Gahan (Depeche Mode), James Hetfield (Metallica), Herbert Grönemeyer, Lou Reed and Win Butler (Arcade Fire), as well as George Clooney, the star of Corbijn’s second feature film The American. After making several politically-oriented documentaries, Klaartje presents the story of a private man with a public profile, who has made his work his life, and who looks at the world unlike anybody else.
