Where you spend your euro, and where you don’t, makes a lot of difference. More and more consumers as well as business-owners are aware of their responsibilities to making the economy more honest, more green and more humane. Triodos Bank is a Dutch bank that works extensively and expressly with companies and initiatives that work towards a sustainable world. From independent movie theatre Rialto to leather goods manufacturer Atelier de L’Armée, sausage makers Brandt & Levie, Funforest’s ‘climbing parks’ for kids and the snazzy Volkshotel.
Before getting started on his commercial, director David Eilander got the names of some thirty companies who do their banking with Triodos Bank. To whittle the list down, he and DOP Daan Bukman visited all that were willing to participate and shot a lot of photographs to create a storyboard and make their final selection. The 45 second film contains some 25 short scenes. As the ad is aimed at both consumers and entrepreneurs, David focused on the transaction as a key message: both seller and buyer need to be conscious of their roles in making a change in the world. Follow your heart, use your head.
